Denim x Jeb Perkins - Trending: Camouflage

Dear lovely lovely readers,

I am so sorry we have been MIA for the past week but I assure you we are back! I thought this would be a great first post because Jeb is a good friend of mine and I desperately wanted to feature him on Velvet and Denim. I am so in love with his thrifted camouflage jacket, it is very versatile and looks great with colored pants or just mutual tones since it is a cool color yet the pattern and the different shades of green makes the outfit so much more special. I always had a thing for white sneakers, especially chucks from Converse, and they are a pop piece in dull winter wear with blacks and grays. Jeb has great subtle pieces of accessories that tie the entire outfit together. His light weight gold watch and his Obey hat are some of the staple pieces he has that match with other outfits well. Let's also acknowledge the sad fact that not everyone can pull mustard yellow pants off, and I love how Jeb has styled his.

Hope you enjoy this rare men's fashion post and have a great week!
Can't wait for Spring.

Red Brick and Army Green

Dear readers,
Tuesday has become the most stressful day of the week for me this semester so I decided to put a dress on now that the sun is out and the snow is melting instead of falling. This dress was a gift from my dear friend, Lindsay, and I love it to death. It is a great floral piece for winter because of its black background and it is so versatile and I can easily create many outfits with it. I would've worn brown ankle boots with this outfit but I chose to wear converse because it is just one of those days and I wanted to dress this down instead, which is also why I chose to wear my thrifted army jacket over it. I hope you guys are having a great start of the week and keep working hard for the rest of the week! Have a wonderful day!

Jacket, dress and belt are thrifted; cable knit tights from F21; Converse.

Velvet here!
Today I felt like being casual, so I went with my most comfortable jeans from Celebrity Gold, a denim shirt from Old Navy, a Jessica Simpson belt, a Free People jacket and some Steve Madden shoes. All of these brands are some of my favorites. Jessica Simpson is not a brand that I want to like, but I cannot tell you how many times I have run across a store screaming "That is SO CUTE!" only to discover that the item was made by J-Simps. C'est la vie.
P.S. 5 years ago, I declared February to be the unofficial "Scarf Month." You'll see a compilation of the scarves I have worn for this year's Scarf Month in a few weeks, but in the meantime, join me! Wear a different scarf every day until you run out (and even then, get crafty and borrow some scarves from people on your floor!)

Artist of the Month: James J. Sicord

Dear my beloved readers,
we hit 8000 views! So here is a special post to celebrate this little success of ours. My dear friend James is the photographer of these pictures of me, he is obviously not only an amazingly talented person but also such a wonderful person. His style is simple: a subtle (good) plaid shirt layered underneath a sweater, and a casual jacket, finished off with a pair of well-fitted jeans and European style shoes. The best word to describe his style is probably "Old Man Chic" (courtesy of Jaya Rastogi) ;)

Bow Ties & Pocket Squares

Hello! This is the first guest post and men's fashion post on Velvet & Denim and I am so honored to have a dear friend of ours be featured today. Read on and enjoy!
- Denim

I've always liked to look nice, but I started to craft my style about two years ago after I saw the famous "Black Ivy" video (http://vimeo.com/15176543). I instantly fell in love with the endless patterns, color schemes, and hair styles that were seen throughout the video. This video led me to one of my favorite style blogs Street Etiquette (http://streetetiquette.com). I spent a majority of the next week neglecting homework and stuffing popcorn down my throat while I took in what this site, others like it, and ultimately this new world had to offer me. I started seeing style where I never had before.

My style is a sort of urban prep, although the city kid in me still likes to rock an occasional pair of Jordans. My favorite brands include Zara, Polo Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, Hawkings McGill, and Levi Strauss & Co.

I love bow ties, a number of mine are from Brooks Brothers, but I love thetiebar.com and all the stuff they have. Small and sometimes unexpected additions to outfits are things I enjoy throwing in. A pocket square or random colored socks are some of my favorites.

Being Us

Dear loves, thank you for your patience, I know we haven't posted in a long time, and I really appreciate the ones of you who ask me personally what is going on. There really isn't much other than busy school work and a crazy start of the semester.

Here are our outfits from yesterday, I really think this is a good representation of our style, with me trying to dress down an elite looking blazer and Velvet's flared jeans and some kick butt heels. Hope you enjoy!
